Why study Biology, Toxicology, or Environmental Science at AU?

A first-rate faculty
All classes (even introductory classes), as well as all labs, are taught by our eight full time faculty members, all of whom hold the Ph.D. degree.

Strong pre-professional programs that will help you get into professional or graduate school.
Our pre-professional programs lead to a B.S. in Biology or Toxicology, and include Pre-Medicine, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Optometry, Pre-Medical Technology, and Pre-Pharmacy. Graduates of AU have gone on to graduate and professional study at highly competitive schools.

We are one of only a few schools in the country to offer an undergraduate Toxicology degree.
Toxicology, the study of the biological effects of poisons, is a great choice if you are interested in a career in biomedical research, forensics, or environmental protection

We have a strong Environmental Science program.
The Environmental Science degree consists of a core of Environmental Science courses, and then a concentration in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or even Toxicology. The Environmental Lecture Series brings well known scientists to campus to interact with students and faculty and our five Environmental Preserves offer a variety of environments (wetland, prairie, forest, stream) for faculty and student research

Students have the opportunity to carry out research under the direction of our faculty.
The Department supports a variety of research in the well equipped labs of the newly renovated Kettering Science Center, with particular emphasis on  molecular and cellular biology and toxicology, and aquatic and environmental biology. all have active research programs involving undergraduates. Students may also choose to gain experience in their field through internships outside of the University.
