B.M., M.M. University of Akron Dione Parker Bennett's voice has been heard in recitals, operas, and guest appearances across the country and beyond. She has performed operatic roles such as Bess in Porgy and Bess ; Mimi in Puccini's La Bohme ; Suor Genevieffa in Puccini's Suor Angelica ; Gertrude in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel ; and Lucy in Scott Joplin's Treemonisha . Her oratorio performances include Handel's Messiah , Beethoven's Mass in C , Schubert's Mass in G , Dubois' Seven Last Words of Christ , and Mozart's Vespers . She also debuted the role of Margaret Bonds in the premier of Karen Clark-Green's N'di. Recently she was featured in the Cantilena Concert Series Rags to Riches at the Columbus Museum of Art; the Mostly Mozart Series at St. John's Church in Columbus; the Friend's of Music Concert Series in Greenville, PA. Bennett has worked with such organizations as the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Illinois Symphony, Cleveland Opera, the Columbus Symphony, and the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra. She has taught at Illinois State University; Miller South School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Akron, Ohio; Suitland High School Center for the Visual and Performing Arts in Maryland, and Mountain Park UMC School of Music in Georgia. Bennett is currently on the faculty at Kenyon College and Ashland University. Her studies have taken her to the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Australia. Bennett is a graduate of the University of Akron and a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois. She lives in Pickerington, Ohio with her husband David Bennett, conductor, and daughters Andra and Alexandria.
