| Music Appreciation
Dennis Cole currently works as a part-time adjunct professor
at Ashland University, where he teaches several sections of
music appreciation. Mr. Cole is pursuing a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology
at Kent State University. He holds a Master’s degree in
Music History and Literature from Southwest Texas State University
(San Marcos, Texas; 2003). His Master’s thesis is entitled
Got to Get You Into My Life: the influence of the Beatles’
music on a post-Beatles generation. Mr. Cole’s musical
interests are in the popular music traditions of the United
States and the Caribbean, along with the various musical traditions
of China. In December 2004, Mr. Cole and his wife, Xin Wang,
will travel to Beijing and Tianjin, China (2004) to conduct
field work on the musical life within the country. Mr. Cole
has published several articles in College Music Society newsletters,
with topics ranging from the Beatles to traditional African
drumming. Recently, Mr. Cole presented papers at several conferences
for both the College Music Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology. |
