The Ashland University Dissertation Writing Fellowship Program provides social and professional support to students from historically underrepresented groups in the writing of their dissertations in the field of education. To this end, Ashland University will provide:

  1. Critical Friends. Full-time College of Education faculty will provide technical support and professional advice toward the writing of your dissertation. Ashland University faculty will not serve as a replacement for your dissertation director. You and your dissertation committee retain full control of and responsibility for your dissertation.
  2. Supportive Colleagues. Ashland University faculty will introduce you to Ashland doctoral students and faculty who might share some of your interests.
  3. Library Mentors. Library research facilities and liaisons will be extended to you. Ashland University is unique in its commitment to providing doctoral students with support. According to Bill Weiss, Director of Library Services, “Ready access to library staff, a fully networked campus and comfortable surroundings make Ashland University an ideal place to pursue and refine doctoral studies.”
  4. Place and Time to Write. You, as a fellow, will have the freedom and encouragement to write without interruption. Office and computer resources will be provided to support this goal.
  5. Housing and Transportation. Each will be provided with on-campus housing and reimbursement for travel to and from Ashland. Various cultural and social activities in surrounding communities are just a short drive away. The use of University recreational facilities is provided as well.
  6. Opportunity to Present Your Research. You will be asked to make an informal presentation of your research to faculty and/or students.
