Intervention Specialist Licensure in Moderate/Intensive

Introduction     Institutional Requirements

Teacher Education Requirements for Major     Four Year Course Rotation    Links

Introduction:

Welcome to Ashland University Teacher Education. You have expressed a desire to matriculate in our licensure programs. There are five categories of expectations during your time in teacher education:

This plan outlines those expectations in each of those categories. In addition, the plan provides teacher education or university offices where you can get further clarification. It is your responsibility to understand all expectations and work closely with your advisor in order to successfully fulfill these expectations.

Please keep a copy of this plan in your records and keep it continually updated. You MUST bring your copy with you when you meet with your advisor or other department personnel. An official copy of your academic plan is continually updated and maintained in your Teacher Education cumulative file (Schar Hall).

General Expectations Throughout a Student's Matriculation:
  1. Maintain a 2.5 cumulative, major, and professional GPA. I understand that if I do not have the required GPA's I will be put on Conditional Admittance status. If at the end of two semesters, the required GPA's are still below 2.5, I understand I will be dismissed from teacher education. I also understand that if I do not earn required GPA's, there is an intervention process that can help me earn back full admission status. (The Office of Field and Clinical Experiences and Advisor will assist you with this process.)
    1. Earn a grade of C- or higher in any Teacher Education course (EDCI, EDFN & EDEC).  I understand that I will have to repeat the course if I earn a D+ or lower on any Teacher Education course.
  1. Accumulate at least 128 hours in order to graduate. (This number is different for transfer students.)
  1. It is the student's responsibility to inform the Office of Disability Services and Peer Tutoring if special learning accommodations are required for course and/or field work. Teacher education faculty or administrators are not required to make accommodations unless appropriate documentation is on file with the Office of Disability Services. Personnel from Teacher Education as well as the Office of Disability Services work closely to ensure fair and reasonable accommodations for the teacher education student.
  1. _____ ACT/SAT Score.
  1. _____ (YES/NO) I must take the Praxis I test because my entering ACT or SAT score was lower than the baseline scores for Teacher Education. An ACT composite of 21 or higher OR an SAT composite of 970 or higher are the current Teacher Education Department baselines. If my ACT/SAT scores are below the baseline scores, then I realize I must take and pass all three sections of the Praxis I test before I can be admitted into Teacher Education. The office that can assist me with Praxis I registration, testing dates, fees, and preparation is Teacher Testing and Licensure and Office.
Suggestions/Challenges to the Student:
  1. Teacher Education faculty advisors are assigned to licensure students based on the particular licensure and expertise of the advisor. That advisor should be your first stop when you have questions or concerns. Do you know where you advisor's office is? Do you know his/her phone number? Do you know his/her email?
  1. As faculty members, your advisor holds regular, weekly office hours. Do you know those hours? Do you know that those office hours change each semester?
  1. Your advisor is assigned to you at the beginning of your matriculation. If you change your licensure area (or your major) you must do the following:

    a. ___ Fill out a Change in Major/Advisor form at the Registrar's Office.

  1. You have been assigned an AU email address as well as a mailbox on campus. Do you check your AU email address often? Those are the two methods of communication we use most often when we send out reminders and notices. We do NOT send these same reminders/notices to your other email addresses. Do you check your mailbox often? Hard copies of updates and notices are sent there.
  1. If you make changes to your academic plan and don't inform your advisor, the total responsibility rests on your shoulders.
