The Ashland University Program Center in Elyria offers:

           (Pre K-3)

These programs are designed to allow students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree without extensive travel.

 

Held on Lorain County Community College Campus, this "2+2 Program" is unique because of the relationship between a private, four-year university and a public, two-year institution.  LCCC is a very modern community college and a gracious host for the Ashland University program.  This location is convenient for many persons in northern Ohio.  Along with classrooms, LCC provides library, media space, and bookstore facilities for the Ashland University programs.

 

Junior and senior level courses are offered at Ashland University Program Center in Elyria.  The first two years of your degree must be taken through the "2+2 Program" available at Lorain County Community College, an LCCC guidance counselor who works with education major transfer students, will serve as your adviser.  You may transfer appropriate coursework from other institutions.  All courses for the Ashland program are offered at the Elyria site.

To be considered for admission to Ashland University, the prospective student needs to submit an application form, $25 admission fee, official transcript from schools of high education previously attended, a high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation.

How to apply:

     Financial aid forms are available in the Ashland University Elyria Program Center's office.  Questions concerning financial aid should be directed to the Financial Aid office on the campus at Ashland University at either 1-800-882-1548 or 1-419-289-5002.

Terms of Payment:

Students are billed for tuition costs in the fall and spring semesters.  Summer courses must be paid at the time of registration.

Transfer Information

Credits earned through a recognized accredited college or university will be accepted at Ashland University as long as the credit earned is C or better.  A grade of D may be transferred if the student has received an associate degree subsequent to the course(s).

Resident Director:

Sandra Gallagher is the resident director of undergraduate education at the Ashland University Program Center in Elyria.  Gallagher is the academic adviser for the undergraduate education program students.  She meets with each student individually to review course options as well as certification and degree requirements.

Other Information:

Many instructors come from the main campus to teach at the program center, while others have taught or are teaching in area schools.  All are qualified and approved by Ashland University.  The Ohio Board of Regents gave the Ashland University Program Center in Elyria a high rating during the University's last evaluation.

Tests and Coursework

Required Tests:

It is recommended that students take the Praxis I - PPST (Pre Professional Skills Test) before entering the Ashland program.  The Praxis tests are offered six times per year at the Elyria Center.

This exam tests basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills.  Registration materials are available at the Ashland University Elyria Program Center office.  If scores on the PPST are low, students will be given additional screening tests through Ashland University.  All students are screened in speech.

Students will also be required, in their senior year, to take Praxis II (check with the Elyria Center office for testing requirements for your specific licensure program).

Coursework:

Upon entering the Ashland University program, it will take two years (four semesters and possible summer work) to complete the program.  Included in the Ashland University program are two or three field experience courses, in addition to student teaching.  All courses are offered at the LCCC site and all field experiences are done in area schools.

Most classes meet one day per week.  These are scheduled at 9 a.m., 1 p.m.,

4 p.m., or 7 p.m.
