The library is at the center of Ashland University, symbolizing its commitment
to the values of learning and the liberal arts. The beautiful, hexagonal prism
shaped, nine-story building is the focal point of the entire campus. In addition
to the main library, there is a library on the theological campus and select
collections in the Charles F. Kettering Science Center and the University's
off-campus teaching centers. The total collection of these libraries is over 300,000 items. This includes the special theological collection, the reference department materials, bound volumes of periodicals and government documents, microtext collections, The Harold E. Andrews Collection of Special and Rare Books, the Lulu Wood Library of Children's Literature, The Numismatic Center Collection and The University Archives. Electronic databases and resources are available through CD-Rom networks and the Internet.
The library continues to build a strong core collection of materials
to support the graduate education curriculum. However, AU recognize
that access rather than ownership is the key to dealing with the information
explosion and the promotion of academic research. Ashland University
is a member of OARnet and offers Internet accounts to all faculty,
students and staff. Internet allows the Ashland University community
access to numerous national and international resources, through networked
and stand alone workstations located in the library and across the
campus. Users throughout the campus and at off-campus facilities can
search ERIC, First Search and other educational resources through the
Internet accounts.
Major research tools include:
- Networked multi-user license for ERIC for alternate access to ERIC through the Internet for off-campus use.
- Lexis-Nexis: full text retrieval on news and legal information.
- First-Search: More than 50 indexing and abstracting resources.
- OHIO Link: the collective buying power of 74 libraries in Ohio.
- 3200 Electronic journals available in full text.
