Recreation and leisure services benefit the individual, community, environment,
and the economy. Students with degrees in recreation facilitate decision-making,
problem solving, skill building, self-awareness, and resource awareness
among constituent groups enabling enhanced satisfaction and quality of life
through positive self directed leisure experiences chosen during free time.
Entry-level professionals create environments in which participants realize
their fullest potential during leisure experience. Majors in recreation
have skills that enable their acquisition and advancement in careers in
the health and human service section, private enterprises, government or
public employment settings, non- profit or voluntary agencies and commercial
ventures.
Objectives of the Program:
Recreation and leisure contribute to the optimal development of each individual by improvement of recreation skills, health, and well-being. The goal of commercial recreation administration and therapeutic recreation services is to increase participant's constructive use of leisure time, improve life satisfaction, health, and the quality of life. Student's complete course work in management, health, psychology, anatomy, physiology, and physical education. Included in the program are field experiences and a 480-clock-hour culminating internship experience.
