AU-GWC Consultations
(All consultations are confidential between the
student and the Writing Center staff)
Consultations with a Writing Assistant
will address the following:
APA
guidelines
Adherence
to the assignment
Organization
and structure
Statement and development of position
Flow,
readability, and style
Finding, understanding, and correcting patterns
of mechanical errors
Set up a consultation by following three easy steps:
When
you get your course syllabi, take note of when each paper
is due.
Contact
the GWC by e-mail as soon as possible to set up a date for a future consultation. The
consultation itself may be done by e-mail or face-to-face.
Bring
a typed, spell-checked, double-spaced and proofread draft of your paper to the consultation, or
send it to the appropriate e-mail address as listed below. Attach your paper to the e-mail as a
Microsoft Word document.
A staff member will read your paper, make comments in the text, and return your paper to you. General
comments may be listed at the end of the paper, so be sure to read the entire paper before starting
your revision.
Tip If you have any questions about APA and the presentation of your sources (in-text citations and/or
Reference List), then bring your source materials or copies of them to your appointment.

Please Note:
The GWC is not an editing and correction service. The Writing Assistant will assist students to identify
and correct errors. If there are so many mechanical errors that we cannot effectively work with the
paper, then we reserve the right to decline the paper until these writing skills and errors are
addressed. The GWC will try to provide names of proofreaders for you to contact if you desire or need
proofreading service.
We also reserve the right to decline any paper about which we are first contacted less than two full
business days before the due date. Papers received after Friday at 4:00 PM will be considered to have
been received the following workday at 8:00 AM.
