Located on the southwest corner of the AU campus close to the Physical Education Center, the 110,000-square-foot Recreation Center and Arthur L. & Maxine Rybolt Sheets Sport Sciences Center opened in the spring of 2006.

The Recreation Center portion of the building houses one competition swimming pool and diving well, a 5,000-square-foot electronic fitness center, two multi-use basketball courts, one indoor soccer area, one aerobic dance and exercise room, two racquetball courts, one indoor running track and a climbing wall.

The Sport Sciences Center is the academic portion of the building and provides much needed space for the Sport Sciences Department. This center includes five technology-enhanced classrooms, a 5,000-square-foot athletic training room that made possible the accreditation of the athletic training program, a human performance laboratory, 15 faculty offices and a student lounge area.
