ASHLAND

Federal Stafford Loan Disclosure Statement

In March 2006, Ashland University was approved by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) for the processing of its Stafford and PLUS Loans.  In addition, the Department approved AU to participate in the School As Lender Program (SAL) for the processing of its Stafford Loans for degree-seeking graduate students.

Ashland University made the decision to participate in the SAL program because of the savings for AU students and the revenue it  provided that must be used for need-based financial aid according to federal regulations.  However, as of March 2008, Ashland University discontinued participation in the SAL program because benefits were no longer available from cooperating lenders.

Ashland University continues to process its Stafford and PLUS Loans through the FFELP Program and provides a listing of lenders on its website. Ashland University believes that processing federal loans through the FFELP program offers the students the most choice in loan terms, benefits and customer service.  AU does not recommend lenders.  Students have the option to choose another lender for their Federal Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans. If that option is chosen, the student should have the certification submitted to AU for completion.
