How to Apply for Undergraduate Financial Aid

Step by Step for Incoming Students

Applications for financial aid for incoming students who have been accepted for admission to AU are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those applications submitted by March 15. You can obtain an early indication of the amount of aid for which you may qualify by completing our online Financial Aid Estimator.

To apply, please complete the following steps:
  1. Apply for admission to AU at www.exploreashland.com.
  2. Once you have been accepted for admission to AU, complete the AU Financial Aid Application online. (Must be completed to apply for the Ohio Choice Grant or any need-based aid including student loans.)
  1. Apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number) at www.pin.ed.gov. You and one of your parents (if your parent is required to complete the FAFSA) should each apply for a PIN in order to sign the FAFSA online.
  2. Make every effort to complete federal tax returns (you and your parents) in February. This will allow you to complete your FAFSA with actual tax information by the AU priority date of March 15. If you must estimate income on the FAFSA, send signed copies of the tax returns (pages 1 & 2 only) to the Financial Aid Office.
  3. Complete the FAFSA on the Web (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov and use the AU Title IV code -- 003012 -- to have your Student Aid Report sent electronically to Ashland University. The FAFSA on the Web may be completed and submitted on or after January 1 for the following academic year. If you prefer to file a paper version of the FAFSA, the form is available from your high school or from the AU Financial Aid Office.
  1. Once Financial Aid Award Letter is received, review award on AU WebAdvisor.  Then, go to Next Steps for Undergraduate Students to complete additional steps required before your loan can be credited to your student account. Note: Incoming students will be mailed instructions for viewing AU WebAdvisor.

Remember the priority date for financial aid is March 15!! Financial aid awards will be mailed to incoming students on a rolling basis throughout the spring and summer with priority given to those students whose forms are completed accurately and submitted by the priority date.
