AU Catalog & Call Numbers

Ashland University Library uses Library of Congress, or LC classification, which consists 21 main classes, organized alphabetically (A to Z without I,O,W,X and Y), by discipline. When viewing a call number, the first letter defines main class with a second letter further defining a specific sub-division. In many cases, cutter numbers detail and clarify subjects. Call numbers are completed with author name and publication year.

Juvenile Literature

Here are some "quick tips" to assist locating various Juvenile Literature categories. Using the AU Catalog, the first group illustrates results achieved when searching by Keyword. As noted in the catalog, keyword searches in title, subject and content note. Results will generally be larger in quantity and less specific. In many cases, it is recommended users limit searches for quality results. Limiting options are displayed in drop down boxes on the keyword page. Additionally, examples of boolean searching are given on the keyword search page. Both options are geared toward increasing the quality of individual searches.

The second group is a search via LC Subject Headings. To view titles and call numbers, select "Extended Display". Selecting a title will display the entire record. Click on the links below for a head start locating items, or formulate your own search
